Society has changed greatly over the years and the challenges teenage girls face has become far more complex. No matter what their background, social class, neighbourhood, peer group, or grade point average, every teen girl can fall victim to an ill-mixed combination of different circumstances like temperament, personality style, past history, school dynamics, and community culture. The emotional, physical, and social pressures can put teen girls at risk of damaging behaviours.
At-risk girls have countless challenges to overcome such as abuse, anxiety, low self-esteem, teen pregnancy, gang membership, trauma and more. This GROW life skills program for At-Risk girls is a proven resource for educating girls and young women on how to overcome the challenges they face at home, school and on the streets.
Grow programs is a dedicated “safe space” where female youth are informally encouraged to build positive self-esteem, set and achieve goals, manage emotions, develop a mind-body connection, self-reflect and find value in female unity.
This theme addresses the issues surrounding the volatile life stage of girls (tran, genderqueer, gender non-binary, two-spirit or however they may identify) so girls can feel accepted and worthwhile, as they emerge as vibrant, confident, young ladies. Participants will be able to discover their true potential and seek independence and identity as they build healthy relationships.
Developing friendships is the focus of this theme. Girls evaluate what makes a healthy vs. unhealthy relationship. What is a friend and what is a bully? Reasons why friendships end is presented and discussed.
Girls will learn different tools to manage anger, anxiety, sadness, grief, and other emotions feelings. Girls will learn social-emotional skills (SEL) to build confidence and enhance their communication, engage critical thinking & interaction.
This theme focuses on self care and resilience. The topics covered will develop skills that build resilience so that no matter what life throws at us, we will have the knowledge and tools to cope and care for ourselves during difficult times. This theme, includes discussions and activities on self-compassion, self care, self-talk and thought patterns, gratitude, body image, empowerment, and leadership.
Girls explore the magnitude of bullying; how it affects people, how to deal with it, how to seek help, and the importance of healthy relationships. This program is designed to help girls identify what bullying is and be able to recognize when it is happening. Our aim is to give girls the tools they need to deal with bullying in a proactive way to stop it from happening.
From magazines to marketing campaigns to music videos, girls today are bombarded by media images. Girls learn about media’s influence on how they view their bodies and have discussions about puberty-based body changes. In this theme, girls girls increase their awareness of the scope and power of the media and the effects of media messages on girls and women.
